Oh Millbrook! My Millbrook!
I still cannot believe that high school is almost over for me. As I reflect back on my years at Millbrook High School I see how much I have grown and changed.
For starters I see how much I have grown as a leader and student. I began high school quite ambitious ready to learn and prosper in what people call the best 4 years of your life. I must have heard that saying wrong because in all honesty high school is anything but the best four years of your life. You learn the good and bad of relationships, friendships, teachers, studying, and hard work. You also learn about time management, most of the time from that awful all-nighter you had to pull because you procrastinated a little too long.
In the short four years of high school I have grown so much as a person. Personally my relationship with my parents have grown and matured as I have grown and matured. Friendships have also done the same for me, as I have learned who I can really count on and who is just passing by. I have also learned a lot about myself and about the kind of person I am. Because of specific classes I have taken in high school I know what kinds of things I am really good at and what other things I struggle with more.
The biggest advice I can give to someone who is about to start high school is to enjoy their four years in high school. High school goes by faster than you think, I promise (even though it really doesn't feel like it). Sit back and relax, enjoy the end of your time as a kid because after high school comes adulthood and lemme just say that can be quite intimidating.
My inner Whitman challenges you to embrace high school and enjoy both the ups and downs that it brings you. It will be over before you know it and you will be looking back at it wondering where the time went (like me).

Great post Marian! It is really weird to look back and see how far we've all come. High school has been a really interesting experience. I hope you have a good time at Wake Forest next year.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that, technically by law, we're supposed to be legally on our own. Wow, that scares me, and I think it scares all of us. I agree with you that I wish I had listened when the (few) seniors I knew as a freshman told me to enjoy high school, and everyday at some point I realize that I'm walking these halls for the last time. I've enjoyed time with you in the classroom, and your drive and passion will carry you far at Wake Forest and beyond! I can't wait to see what you become, and maybe one day our History class can actually go to the Mad Hatter Cafe.
ReplyDeleteTime does fly! Do you remember when we met sophomore year in Algebra 2? It feels like that was just the other day. I am so glad at how close we have gotten in such a short amount of time. I can't wait to see what life brings you over the next four years, and I am really sad that we won't be together. Just remember to always be positive and don't let the silly little things bring you down. I am always here for you.
ReplyDelete-Your twisted sister
For some reason I had the thought that my last blog comment should be on someone's blog who I don't really know. It's weird that we can be in such a close knit program with a small amount of students and never have had a class together (and I'm really hoping we haven't had a class, and I'm very sorry if we have and I don't remember.. wow this was risky blog comment decision) Anyways, in the same sense, we haven't had a class, but we have gone through the same journey of IB at Millbrook, and I can completely relate to your thoughts on high school! I also hope that high school wasn't the best 4 years of my life, but I think it has provided a sound foundation for my future! I think it's important that we had this time to grow and improve upon what we're good at and what we're not in order to develop into better "leaders and students," and I think I'd add people in general to that list.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't know if I'd say that high school was the best 4 years of my life. I'm hoping there's better to come, especially in college.
ReplyDeleteBut I will say that I've met some of the best people in my life so far during my years in high school. They've challenged me to become the best I can be, something I'm still working on.
You've definitely been one of these people though. Although we aren't as close as we were last year, I loved getting close to you in the Sassy Six <3 That beach trip to Emerald Isle is one of the most fun, blissful memories I have. You're so fun to be around and kind and outgoing. I love you Marian and I'm glad to have had you as a friend!

ReplyDeleteI can't believe that high school is almost over either! I'm so glad that I met you freshman year and can now call you one of my best friends :) I know I can count on you, and you can always count on me. I'm not sure how I'm going to survive college without you but I'll just be a short drive, phone call, text, email, or letter away. (If I'm not too broke I can send you little care packages hahah) I've made so many memories with you and I'm glad I had you by my side throughout high school. I hope you enjoy Wake Forest next year! <3
ReplyDeleteSince you're the best friend of my girlfriend, that makes us obligatory best friends, sorrynotsorry bff. Although the time I've really known you is short, I can say that you are one of the most squared away people I've ever met, and have a extremely bright future. When you're the president, I hope you'll remember me.
ReplyDelete1) Love the Whitman shout-out
ReplyDelete2) Love the section about your parents/your relationship with them. I think that's such mature insight and so true- my mom and I didn't get along until I was an "adult" and could see that me being a sassy teenager wasn't such a great way to be.
3) Best of luck, Marian- I have no worries about you because I know you'll work hard to achieve whatever you want to achieve and everyone better stand back or get on board! Girl power for life.
